Ollie Lee
Timms
d. Mar 23, 2021
Ollie Lee Barton Timms was born unto Rev. Robert W. Barton and Mrs. Amanda Evans Barton on June 22, 1922. On March 23, 2021, mama completed an adventure of life that lasted 98 years and closed the Book of the Barton clan. Her parents and ten siblings preceded their earthly life before her: Mack Burton, Amos Burton, Robbie Pulliam, Walter Barton Sr., Callie Miller, Robbie Cryer, Mary Amons, Joel Barton Sr. and Viola Smith. Sadly, she laid to rest our father C.L. Timms Sr. whom she married Dec. 25, 1938. Also our brother Charles L. Timms, Jr. and 4 grandchildren, Annetta L. Rhoades, Victor C. Campbell Sr., Sean J. Stafford and Che M. McDonald.
Her favorite pastime was fishing with our dad. Mama was an avid fisherman, reader, and biker. She also loved to write short stories and draw. Gospel plays were a must for she and her sister Callie. Traveling across country to try her twin and other siblings were yearly and sometimes more than a few in a year. Gospel, spiritual and jazz was her style of music. She was employed by Belaire Pharmacy and Memphis City School System, where she retire from both. She was the first Vice President of the Parent Teachers Association (P.T.A.) for Mitchell High School where she also served as Treasurer. For over 20 years, she marched for the March-of-Dimes and mama rode her bike in the Bike-a-Thon fund raiser for 50 miles yearly and for St. Jude over 10 years. She was a member of the NWACP. As a supporting grandmother she was Senior Advisor for Lanier Jr. High girls Drill Team and for the Solid Gold drummers of Mitchell High School. Our mom was active in Church as a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the #1 Usher Board until her health began declining. She re-dedicated her life to Christ with a second Baptizing at Mt. Pisgah by Rev. A.C. Jackson, pastor emeritus.
There were five children born through the union of our parents but only four here to mourn her passing. They are Welthia Campbell, Maryland Hunter, Geraldine Wilins (Theodore) and Gwendoline Timms-Williams. Our mother brought fourth six generations. There were 13 grandchildren. Four deceased and nine surviving to mourn her passing: Sandra Timms; Charles Timms III (Kim); Audrienna Hill (Ely); Theresa James (Stacy); Angela Douglas; Willie Stafford Jr.; Darrence Hunter; Brigette Timms and Antionette Jamison. Thirty-one great grandchildren who brought forth twenty-four great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great grandchildren beginning the sixth generation. There are not enough words nor time to comment on the entirety of her life adventures and endeavors.
