Sandra
Bonner
d. Oct 23, 2019
Sandra Glenn Young Bonner was born in Nesbit, MS on August 4, 1953 to Homer Jodie Young and Alleen Washington Young. She was the youngest of five children who her immediate family described as "smart as a whip and loved to make her presence known."
As a child, Sandra attended Hernando Elementary School. Afterwards, she attended Hernando Central High School and was an academically admired and supremely proud graduate of the Class of 1971. While in high school, Sandra was a cheerleader, basketball player and a self-proclaimed entertainer who kept everyone in laughter. Vibrant in personality and speech, she definitely owned a room.
Sandra realized her love for Christ at a very early age while at St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church in Nesbit, MS. Sandra dedicated her life to the Lord and lived diligently to exemplify Christian character with her primary goal being: raising a family founded on the Word of God; believing respecting and understanding His Power, Grace and Mercy and always striving to be a blessing whenever you can as much as you can.
Through divine providence, Sandra met Albert Bonner, Sr. in 1969. The two were married on June 19, 1971 and became the proud parents of two children: Albert Bonner, Jr. born November 6, 1971 and Krystal Bonner born November 11, 1981, both in Memphis, TN.
Throughout her life, Sandra was an active member of several congregations. As a young adult, she joined Eureka True Vine Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Nolly and served as a member of the choir. Later, along with her husband Albert Bonner, Sr., Sandra joined New Gilfield Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Leonard Bonner and served as a Sunday School Teacher.
In the final decade of Sandra's life, she found a Christian community like no other within the fellowship of Rising Sun Outreach Ministries, under the leadership of Pastor Aaron Campbell, Sr. Sandra was a part of the Sunday School Ministry, the Usher Ministry, The Mother Board and the Women's Ministry.
Sandra was admired by many for her sense of style. She loved fashion, like Christ loved the Church . Sandra enjoyed fellowshipping with friends and family over great food, especially cooked by one of her dearest friends and brother -in-law, A.D. Howell. She loved to sing to anybody who would listen . And Sandra loved to laugh and talk especially to some of her closest friends and family such as: Irma Wilson, Diann Morgan and her sister Nella Howell.
She had a laughter that filled a room, a passion for serving and a soul for dancing. She danced so much, that she taught her daughter her very first try out routine when becoming a majorette at Westwood High School.
Though she embraced several passages in the Word, there was one scripture that she "preached" daily: Cleanliness is next to Godliness. She was an avid supporter of a clean home and superior time management: the clean room part was always her son's struggle and the time management is something her daughter has yet to "manage" . Sandra was known throughout her life as a true organizer, always handling things neat and in order: no clutter, no junk. She always managed to see the bright side in all things: playful, yet serious and with a smile.
Sandra built a career as a leader in Retail Manufacturing as a Quality Control Auditor. Sandra worked extremely hard and would rarely miss a day. No matter the job, she approached each with excellence and was often, promoted to leadership positions within those companies. Sandra's professional career included FedEx, Sonoco Products and lastly Kik Custom Products of Memphis, TN.
She had a strong belief in accountability, integrity, love and responsibility and worked to instill those qualities in her children every day.
