Obituary

Catherine Cobbs was born in Tchula Mississippi, June 7, 1925, to the late Percy and Mary Ella Herring. She was the 3rd of nine children, all of which preceded her in death.

She attended Cofolona school in Tchula, MS. and defied the odds when she embarked on a journey for self-improvement. She taught herself to read and write after drawing inspiration and knowledge from her children's educational experiences and became the CEO of her household. She and her husband were sharecroppers and gardeners and she enjoyed growing all kinds of flowers and plants, but her greatest joy came from helping to take care of her grandchildren.

She married the late Earl Cobbs, Sr., June 8th, 1941, and to that union 12 children were born; five of which preceded her in death, Lucile Cobbs, Evelyn Ann (Patsy) Henry, Mary C. Anderson, Louise Cox, and James T. Cobbs.

She repented of her sins and gave her life to God in 1976 and became a faithful member of the Church of God until she was no longer able to attend services.

She leaves behind three daughters, Carrie M. Taylor of NJ, Edna J. Garner of IL, Ruthie L. Brown of AR, four sons, Earl Cobbs, Jr. and Arthur B. Cobbs (Joan), both of California, Sylvester Cobbs (Betty) of Tunica, MS, and Mosie L. Cobbs (Diane) of Memphis, TN. She also leaves thirty-three grandchildren, eighty-five great grandchildren, forty-seven great-great grandchildren, seven great-great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives, friends, and church family.
