Herbert Cleotis Simelton was born on February 8, 1960 in Memphis, Tennessee, at John Gaston Hospital. At an early age, he professed his faith in Christ, which remained an important part of his life.

A gifted athlete at Northside High School, Herbert distinguished himself on the football field as a fullback and running back and showcased his speed as a sprinter on the track team. He graduated in 1978. Herbert w ent on to dedicate 43 years of faithful service to Cummins in Memphis, Tennessee, where he worked as a CNC Technician before retiring in 2021. Even after retirement, Herbert continued to embrace life with joy. He cherished traveling and spending time with loved ones, enjoying opportunities to take several cruises and visit beautiful destinations such as Jamaica, Hawaii, and the Bahamas, until his health no longer permitted.

On Monday, December 8, 2025, Herbert transitioned peacefully to his eternal home to be with his Heavenly Father.

Herbert was preceded in death by his father Troy Simelton, Sr.; his mother Vergie Simelton; his sisters Mamie Kirby and Ruby Simelton; and his brother, Troy Simelton, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his daughters, Kaia Hollingsworth and Eboni Simelton; his son, Evan Simelton; four grandchildren, Iyana, A'Maya, Eden, and Eric; his brother, Carl (Patricia) Simelton; his sisters, Debra (Rick) Simelton-Vincent and Joyce Simelton; his aunt, Bernice Neal-Collier; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends.
