Obituary

Sunrise began for Melvin Massey on November 23, 1961, in Hernando, MS to the union of the late, Walter Massey & Earline Mckinney.

Sunset was on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at the age of 59.  He was preceded in death by his father.

Melvin accepted Christ at Dean Hill Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Hughes.  He was child of God who held steadfast to his faith.  Melvin was a member of Greater New Life Church, Rev. R.C. Rayborn.

Melvin was a graduate of Horn Lake High School.  He understood the importance of work and family at an early age.  Melvin worked many years as a mechanic for MATA.  He was also an entrepreneur and was self-employed as a painter and carpentry.

In addition to being a strong, devoted father, and grandfather, he had many talents.  One that stood out the most was his ability to entertain with much laughter, he was quite a comedian.  At any family gathering, you could expect to hear a bundle of laughter from his jokes, special names, or his candid personality.  He had a way with words that was uniquely his.  Most of all, you could expect love and good family memories being made.

Melvin leaves to cherish his memory: a loving mother, Earline McKinney; two Children: a son Eric Massey and one dauther, Marissa (Keith) Emmons; one granddaughter: Maria West, a fiance, Marilyn Hervery; two brothers:  Walter Massey Jr. and Decorrian Smith; four sisters: Sherry M. Partee, Wanda "Rena" (Robert) McNeary Meeks, Wallisa Rives-Massey, Joyce Massey, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, aunts, other relatives and friends.
