Rosie
Paschal
d. Sep 3, 2025
Rosie Paschal, 80, of Memphis, TN, passed away suddenly on September 3, 2025.
Born on September 26, 1944, in San Antonio, Texas, Rosie grew up in Valentine, a small town that shaped her generous heart and resilient spirit. A proud graduate of Valentine High School, she played on the girls' basketball team. Her bold, determined style of play on the basketball court reflected the feisty spirit she carried throughout her life.
Rosie was never afraid of change or adventure. After marrying, she left Valentine and made a home in Denver, Colorado, before later relocating to Omaha, Nebraska. There, she established a long and respected career as an accountant with the Bozell and Jacobs advertising agency. Upon retiring, she moved to Memphis to be near her daughter and grandchildren, who were the center of her world.
Even in retirement, Rosie's energy could not be contained. She began a new chapter as a crossing guard for two Memphis schools, Hickory Ridge Elementary and Winridge Elementary. She quickly became a familiar and beloved figure, known for her lively spirit and no-nonsense care for the children, parents, and staff who crossed her path each day. She was deeply respected in this role and proud of the bonds she built with the community.
At home, Rosie expressed her love through cooking, especially the rich and flavorful Mexican dishes that filled her kitchen with warmth and joy. She started each morning with her favorite coffee brimming with milk, cinnamon, and sugar often in the company of her beloved Chihuahua, Coco.
Those who knew Rosie will remember not only the years of her life, but the vitality, strength, and love she poured into each of them. Her presence will be deeply missed, yet her influence will live on in her family and in all who were fortunate to know her.
Rosie was preceded in death by her beloved son, Johnny Calderon III; her parents, Amadeo and Pauline Montezuma; and her brother, Guadalupe Montezuma. She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Chism (Cedric) of Memphis; her grandchildren, Jonathan Calderon (Neha) of Chicago, IL, and Jordan and Morgan Chism of Memphis; her daughter-in-law, Jackie Calderon of Maple Grove, MN; and many other family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 26, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, followed by a reception at the church.
