Ruby Darlene
Johnson Rosenthal
d. Nov 19, 2024
Ruby
Darlene Johnson Rosenthal was born May 10, 1937 in Camp Creek, North Carolina to Edmund C. Johnson and Hattie B. Owens-Johnson. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age.
Ruby
was always active and involved even in her younger years. She was a member of the singing group, The Fawns, a cheerleader, played basketball, and was even crowned queen of the 1954 cotillion in Toledo, Ohio arranged by the Alpha Iota Chapter of the Iota Phi Chapter of the Iota Phi Lambda Sorority. With quick wit and appealing charm, she pursued the most befitting career for someone with her charisma - barbering, and it would be barbering that would connect
her to the love of her life, Arthur Rosenthal, Sr., who she married April 9, 1976 in Columbus, Ohio.
Due to Arthur's service to the United States Air Force, Ruby was able to gain licensure as a Master Barber in four states: North Carolina, Ohio, California, and Tennessee. Prior to retirement, she practiced her craft at the Millington Navy Base, where she had the privilege of cutting the Admiral's hair. Her career in barbering covered a span of over 40 years.
Ruby's
outgoing personality led her to many opportunities in the Memphis community. She was once a member of the Optimist Club, served as an Ambassador for the Memphis Police Department, danced with the Memphis Grizzlies' Grannies and Grandpas, and frequently served as a poll worker during elections. Prior to her sickness and demise, she was a faithful member of Omega Church, Inc. under the direction of Pastor Garry L. Shaw. Ruby was preceded in death by both of her parents, all of her siblings, and two of her daughters, Marlena Bolton and Janice Thomas. She leaves to mourn: her husband of 48 years, Arthur Rosenthal, Sr.; two sons, Keith McClellan of Toledo, Ohio and Dr. Arthur Rosenthal, Jr. (Christina); one daughter, Tina Marie
Johnson; three stepdaughters, Joyce Shaw (Garry), Catherine Ann Lee, and Jane Harrison; one stepson, Reverend Tony Graham; grandchildren, Arnitra McClellan, Miranda Ellison, Melissa McClellan, Donji Bolton, Jack Bolton, Kristina Crawford, Elijah Ellis, Jasmine Johnson Rosenthal (whom she raised), Arthur Rosenthal III, Artemus Rosenthal, Artison Christof Rosenthal; 11 great-grandchildren; an endeared niece, Trina Thompson, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
