Tyler Roosevelt Glover Sr. was known lovingly and respectfully as the Mayor of Orange Mound, yet Tyler Roosevelt Glover Sr. was much more than that. He was a caring husband, father an grandfather who was well-loved and respected throughout his community and city.
Mr. Glover , a devout Christian, was called to his eternal rest on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019, after a long illness. He was 89. He was the seventh of thirteen children born to Sandy and Leola Glover. He and his siblings all attended Melrose High School, at the time located across the street from the Glover home. Mr. Glover was a member of the 1950 class of Melrose High School.
He was also known for his Tyler Burgers, hotdogs and secret recipe slaw that were the hallmark of Tyler's Place, the popular eatery he operated on Park Avenue from 1982 to 2005.
Those left to celebrate and cherish his life and memory, in addition to his loving devoted wife, Virginia Flynn Glover, include four children, Sephia West (Otha), Patrice Glover Crenshaw, Tyler R. Glover Jr. (Lillian), and Reginald R. Glover; four siblings, Lillie G. Nelson, Gwen Glover, and Hazell G. Jones, all of Memphis, and Geraldine G. Minley of Chicago and Margaret Muse; nine grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; a host of additional family members and friends; his Beulah Baptist Church family, and countless admirers and Orange Mound residents.
