Mrs. Velma Mae White Johnson, a beacon of light and love, peacefully completed her earthly journey on September 20, 2026. Born in 1954, Velma was a lifelong learner and a dedicated member of her community. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and continued her education at Shelby State Community College, the University (U of M), and Messick Vocational Tech School. Her professional career journey began with AT&T and concluded with her retirement from H&R Block. A devout woman of faith, she was a cherished member of Life of Liberty Church. On February 25, 1984, Velma married her soulmate, Larry Johnson. Together, they spent 42 wonderful years building a life centered on love and laughter, proudly raising six children. Known for her quick wit, warm smile, and giving heart, she had a natural gift for making everyone feel valued and always had a joke ready to lighten the mood. Outside of her career and family life, she was a passionate cook and loved creating flower arrangements.
Velma was preceded in death by her mother, Tom Ella Davis; her father, Joseph Lee White Sr: her brothers, Joseph White Jr., Earnest White, and Calvin White; and her sisters, Louise Johnson and Juanita White.
Velma leaves to cherish her memory, a loving husband, Larry Johnson: six children, Tracy White, Dell Heffner, April Burns (Isiah), Vontina Johnson, Joshua Johnson (Corlissa), and Vermonica Johnson: eleven grandchildren, Little Dell, Marnisha, Jonathan, Justun, June Bug, Isiah, Kassidy, Kaliyah Kamrin, Kadarrin, and Monclaire: five sisters, Christine Abston, Crystal White, Cardria White, Gail Britt (Gerald) and Janice Thomas (Pete): and three brothers, Patrick White, Alvin White, and Terrance Oliver (Yolanda): and two special aunts, Josie Davis and Dorothy Newman. She is also survived by a host f nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and other relatives and friends.
